"Old" is sort of an inverted M. Night Shyamalan movie in the sense that, whereas his movies are often capped sensationally by their twists, this one really sort of fizzles out after some nice scenarios play out on a beach that rapidly ages all who find themselves unfortunate enough to be on it. Not that the twist isn't appropriate for the material, but it isn't the centerpiece of a movie that's really all about the freakish consequences of its story. If there's a big problem with this one, it's that Shyamalan -- never the most humorous of filmmakers -- plays it a little too straight with material rife with potential for black comedy. Some great moments of body horror are sprinkled throughout the movie, though, and I think there's more than enough good here to compensate for the slightly overwrought writing. Solid cast, too, with Gael Garcia Benal, Alex Wolff and Thomasin McKenzie doing some excellent work.
