I'm a sucker for found footage movies featuring aliens, but even I have a breaking point. Enter "The Who Incident", a micro-budget effort from Ron Chevarie in which he plays one half of a middle-aged hippie couple beset by paranormal events while attempting to celebrate their 20th anniversary. There's some mystery in how an owl toy beloved to the husband's deceased father is connected to the lights and noises afflicting the couple, but ultimately the real mystery is how and why this movie got made. To call the acting amateurish would be an understatement and the script genuinely feels like it was written by AI, with the characters very awkwardly interacting with each other while dropping anchor-heavy exposition and pointlessly narrating everything they see and do throughout. Then -- after what seems like an interminable wait that's actually about seventy minutes -- come what could very loosely be called the special effects, during a climax that made me laugh but was apparently supposed to be a creepy pay-off to the dull movie preceding it. To be fair, there is an image of an owl in there that kind of works, but it's quickly replaced by, well, something much less impressive (see images below). There's also another scene in which one of the characters investigates noises in the woods surrounding their house using night-vision that's actually pretty creepy. Otherwise, this is a woeful movie that might have been interesting if those behind it recognised their limitations, hired a couple of their more talented friends, and went with a "less is more" approach in the closing minutes.
