Don't Breathe 2 (2021)

Have you suffered total memory loss in the time since you watched 2016's "Don't Breathe"? If your answer was 'yes,' then boy do I have a movie for you. Well actually it's complete crap, but it will definitely help to be an amnesiac when watching a movie that tries to present The Blind Man (Stephen Lang) from Fede Alvarez's first film as some sort of tragic hero who we should apparently root for in his bloody quest to regain custody of his sorta-adopted young daughter (Madelyn Grace) from her organ-harvesting, meth-cooking birth parents. If you watched the first movie, you know this isn't a man that needs to be the guardian of little girls and you definitely won't be able to stomach the weird revisionism of a villain into some kind of avenging angel. It doesn't help that this is just another version of the first film, minus any real protagonists and populated instead by characters you couldn't care less about, who are mostly just here to be killed off by The Blind Man in increasingly unlikely ways. Of all the directions they could have gone in with a follow-up to "Don't Breathe" (and they didn't need to go in any direction, to be honest), first-time director Rodo Sayagues and co-writer Fede Alvarez chose to go in the most inexplicable, least entertaining direction they could. Just stick to the original and pretend this one doesn't exist.
