A trio of sisters inherit a motel from a grandfather they believed to be long dead, head out with three friends to their new property and wade into a world of bloody murder, mystery and, well, incest. "Lake Dead" is the "Wrong Turn" incest movie before the "Wrong Turn" incest movie, complete with mother-son frenching and a nefarious plot to restore a purer bloodline by integrating the three sisters into the fucked up family unit they never knew they had. What begins as a generic slasher complete with breasts, blood and bad acting morphs into something weird and unsatisfying by the end, but for what it's worth the first half of the film before Gloria (Pat McNeely) reveals her evil plans is actually pretty good, with the characters' initial run-ins with a pair of shaggy slashers providing some cheesily fun deaths (one with a pickaxe is especially nice). It's never actually what you could call good but it's fun in that way bad low-budget horror can be before it takes that turn and proceeds to nerf its bad guys. Save for a couple of funny lines of dialogue, the remainder of the movie is a letdown.
