"The Amityville Curse" represents the Tubification of the "Amityville" franchise (if that endless parade of movies could even be called a franchise), and, considering its not exactly stellar reputation, it's something of a blessing. Following a group of friends who purchase the Amityville house only to uncover its dark past and start dropping like flies, it's a movie with very little suspense or mystery but with enough goofy special effects work and comfortable familiarity to get a passing grade (if you have taste like mine, of course). Sure, the characters are dumb as hell for not getting out of dodge before the 45-minute mark and essentially volunteering to die next, but what would a paranormal movie even be if its cast of characters had actual survival instincts? For their part, the actors are endearing enough without doing anything spectacular, even if none of them play anybody worth rooting for. Mostly "The Amityville Curse" is about the methods of death its characters suffer, their fumbling attempts to get to the bottom of their predicament and the ultimate resolution of a standard haunted house narrative that's solidly engaging. I liked it for what it is.
