A "Jack Frost" sequel that ramps up the silliness by transporting the action to a tropical island and having Jack Frost (Scott MacDonald) offing a plethora of stock horror-comedy characters en route to punishing vacationing nemesis Sam Tiler (Christopher Allport) for his recent confinement to an unmarked grave, "Jack Frost 2: The Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman" is good for some laughs but pales in comparison to its underrated predecessor. Sure, sidebars involving Jack's transformation into a hottie-squishing anvil and the birth and subsequent massacre of this more mobile incarnation of Jack's offspring are high points in amongst the mostly unfunny proceedings, but they're not enough to save what feels like a downgraded, unnecessary sequel. Frankly, the more stationary Jack Frost model made for more entertaining death scenes, while the simplicity of the first movie also hit better than this movie's self-consciously daft plotting. And having Jack's kryptonite be bananas? Come on now. Whereas 1997's "Jack Frost" remains rewatchable all these years later, "Jack Frost 2: The Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman" is more of a one-and-done sequel.
